Bill 168- prevention of violence in Call Centres
Wednesday April 21st, 2010
9 am - 11 am
Holiday Inn Toronto Airport - East

Bill 168 comes into effect on June 15th, 2010

Bill 168 requires that every employer in Ontario with more than five employees develop and implement a comprehensive policy and program to address and prevent violence and harassment in the workplace.

This bill was prompted after an inquest about the murder of nurse by a co-worker at a hospital in Windsor, Ontario. It also relates to a separate case where a Call Centre worker in Trenton, Ontario was murdered by a co-worker. http://beta.intelligencer.ca/ArticleDisplay.aspx?archive=true&e=1324581

Violence and harassment includes the "exercise or attempt to exercise physical force by a person against a worker in a workplace that causes or could cause physical injury to the worker."

You will also be required to train all employees with respect to your company's violence prevention program.
